New free of charge electronic games for blind children

Three brand-new games for blind children!

This summer, our Crowdfunding campaign was completed, and thanks to your support, we were able to offer children a gift.

We developed and offered free of charge, three electronic games for blind people, in order to help their education and let them have fun. Up to 100 people helped us in this effort by contributing to the crowdfunding campaign. Now we are proud to present our gifts: “Noah’s Ark” and two more educational, musical games that aim to cover the need for games specially designed for blind people.

The games are available free of charge here (in Greek).

Games’ Description

The games are based on the well-known memory game in which the player tries to find pairs of identical cards. Only in this case, the game is designed for the needs of blind children. Therefore, every card has a sound, and the player searches for similar or respective sounds.

In the first game, the player is in Noah’s Ark and tries to find pairs of animals in order to feed them.

In the musical games, the player is a valued assistant in a musical performance and learns about the musical instruments. In the “Find that musical instrument” game, the player pairs the sounds of the instruments with their names; whereas in the “Find the musical instrument category” they categorize them according to whether they are wind, crust, or string instruments.

Games’ Benefits

The games have many benefits. First of all, just the possibility offered to children with vision problems isn’t such a self-evident thing. The specially designed Memor-i games offer entertainment possibilities that didn’t exist until now.

In addition to that, they have an important educational value: With these games, the players train their memory, attention, and perception, and they sharpen their hearing in a fun way. SciFY’s research so far – which is already publicly available here – has yielded clear results: blind children in Elementary school and Junior high school start getting familiarized with computers with no fear while they develop useful skills and enrich their knowledge.

At the same time, the games serve the children’s socialization by providing happy occasions to communicate and facilitating interpersonal contact.

While the games are designed for blind children, they are just as interesting, entertaining, and educational for all children!

Next steps

We don’t plan on stopping here! We are looking for funding to:

  • Create versions in English so that the games can be utilized abroad as well, as we did with the first three electronic games for blind children that we created.
  • Allow everyone to upload their own sounds and create new games that will also be available for everyone.
  • Give the opportunity for online gaming against a friend no matter how far away they are.

The music games are implemented with the kind support of
