On Wednesday, October 18th, the SciFY team, together with the Alzheimer Society of Athens and NCSR Demokritos, held the 21st SciFY Academy at INNOVATHENS on “Dementia & Technology” where we tried to answer the question, “How does technology help people with dementia?”
Over 120 healthcare professionals, dementia carers, and students attended the event and watched the seminar, which focused on practical solutions and tools for those caring for people with dementia.
Initially, Dr. Paraskevi Sakka Neurologist – Psychiatrist, H. President of the Alzheimer Society of Athens and President of the National Observatory for Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, spoke to us about Alzheimer’s disease, the latest developments, and how Greece is affected today on a social and economic level.
Then, Mrs. Eleni Margioti, Clinical Neuropsychologist from the Alzheimer Society of Athens, talked about Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions in dementia, such as mental strengthening, physical exercise, occupational therapy, speech therapy, etc. See Mrs. Margioti’s presentation here.
The event’s third presentation was given by Mr. Vassilis Giannakopoulos, Marketing & Impact Manager of SciFY, gave the event’s third presentation. He introduced us to the mobile phone application “diAnoia” developed by SciFY for those who care for people with dementia. See Mr. Giannakopoulos’s entire presentation here.
Next, Mr. Nikos Drosos, Project Manager of European Projects of SingularLogic, talked about the means by which technology helps people with dementia. See Mr. Drosos’s presentation here.
Finally, Dr. Vasiliki Redoumi, researcher at NCSR Demokritos, on the occasion of the European IASIS Project, talked to us about the developments regarding personalized medicine for Alzheimer’s. You can find Dr. Redoumi’s presentation here. .
After the presentations, the participants had the opportunity to ask their questions to the speakers, followed by an open discussion with the audience.
